The Formation of IPMMA
 
Seminar on International regulatory compliance Role of Pharma Machinery
This seminar was organized on 28th February, 2004 at Hotel Kohinoor continental, Mumbai. The key speaker was Dr.P.G.Shrotriya, the technical director from M/s. M.J.Biopharm private limited.

The major emphasis was on International regulatory requirements for the pharmaceutical industry as per Schedule M, Schedule U, cGMP, US FDA, MCA etc. for the machinery manufacturers. There was a detailed and interactive session on issues like commitment to quality excellence and awareness on cGMP, validation protocols, importance of routine maintenance, in house training and development, quality systems like ISO-9000, standardization and ready availability of spares, post marketing surveillance & services, innovation and continuous improvement of design, design specification of machinery with drawing, IQ,OQ & PQ documentation etc.

There was also a special session on cGMP compliance for the pharma machinery, particularly in the areas of non-sterile and sterile product manufacturing.
 
Newsletter
IPMMA is now planning to launch a newsletter in order to maintain continuous communication and sharing information with the members. The editorial board of this newsletter is also working out ways and means to have arrangement with the industry experts and some international publishing houses to provide information on latest technological trends and trying share articles from such publications. The newsletter will also have regular columns on Trade, Technology, Market Research, Import-Export details, Interviews with famous personality from the industry, technical write ups from the member companies etc. in the forthcoming issues of IPMMA newsletter.
 
Other activities
IPMMA has identified various difficulties faced by the members relating to Central excise, Sales tax, Service tax, import-export duties and these have been put forward to the concerned authorities seeking clarification. The association also gets regular updates from FICCI, ITPO, EEPC, CII, IDMA, BDMA and this information will be communicated to the member companies on a periodical basis.

The association has got exemption notification under 80G from the income tax authorities which give the tax benefits to the member contributing to the association.

Launching of the IPMMA website.

Special chapter for Pharmaceutical machinery under EEPC scheme.

Inclusion of pharmaceutical machinery in the list of 600 items for duty exemption in the bilateral trade agreement between India and MERCOSUR(Latin America Countries).
Lifting of trade embargo with Pakistan.
Promoting Export of Pharmaceutical Machinery amongst SAARC countries.
International representation of IPMMA at INTERPACK, ACHEMA etc.
Getting membership of FICCI, CII and EEPC.
MDA & MAI schemes for IPMMA members
 
PTA with MECOSUR :
IPMMA has already requested the ministry of commerce and industry for inclusion of Pharmaceutical machinery in the list of products in connection with the ongoing preferential trade agreement with MECOSUR.(A trade block of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay & Uruguay to provide import tariff concession to given by the lead country Brazil) The association has received a very positive reply from the Ministry of commerce and Industry, New Delhi.
 
Lifting of Trade embargo with Pakistan :
IPMMA has made a representation with the ministry of to help lifting the trade embargo with Pakistan and this can open the gates for a very lucrative market. Pakistan Pharmaceutical industry comprises 20 multinational and 323 national companies which produces medicines worth US $ 800 million per annum and market size for the pharmaceutical machinery in Pakistan is around USD $ 12-15 million.
